The Dräger Perseus A500 Anesthesia workstation

Manufacture: Dräger

The Perseus A500 combines advanced anaesthesia delivery and outstanding ventilation performance to meet the needs of contemporary clinical practice, consequently to contribute for a better patient outcome.

The Perseus A500 Anesthesia workstation

The Perseus A500 Anesthesia Workstation is designed for low- and minimal-flow inhalation anesthesia in adults, pediatric and neonatal patients (even very preterm infants weighing 300 g or more) and can be used for automatic or manual ventilation, spontaneous pressure-supported breathing, and spontaneous breathing.

The Perseus A500 Anesthesia workstation

The device is equipped with a precise electrically-driven TurboVent 2 ventilator (no driving gas required for operation) and a compact breathing system with heating, which allows you to provide high-quality ventilation at the ICU level, taking into account the needs of the patient; an electronically controlled fresh gas mixer with automatic adjustment of fresh gas composition; has an integrated manual emergency O2 supply; an integrated active or passive anesthetic gas scavanging. Because of the optimised breathing system, changes in the gas concentration reach the patient more readily, especially during low- and minimal-flow anaesthesia.

15.3" color touchscreen display:

  • standardized Dräger user interface, configurable
  • display of fresh-gas efficiency (minimal flow)
  • display of three waveforms, parameters and mini trends simultaneously

Perseus A500 has a fully automatic start and streamlined self-test, export and import of system settings, integrated workplace illumination.

Gas monitoring:

  • integrated gas monitoring: inspiratory and expiratory gas concentrations (O2, N2O, CO2 and anesthetics); automatic identification of two anesthetic agents; age-adjusted MAC value
  • consumption-free oxygen monitoring
  • measurement of gas consumption

Comprehensive security features:

The Perseus A500 Anesthesia workstation

  • manual backup mode (in case of ventilator, touch screen or gas mixer failure) allows manual ventilation while maintaining gas and ventilation monitoring, as well as O2 and anesthetic supply to continue anesthesia at any time
  • an additional LCD display shows the pressure in the respiratory tract, the state of gas supply and power supply
  • in case of disconnection of the central gas supply and the absence of spare gas cylinders, ventilation of the patient can be continued with atmospheric air
  • battery for up to 150 minutes back-up power
  • integrated RFID technology monitors adequate use of sensors and consumables

Perseus A500 is compatible with Vapor 2000 and Vapor 3000 with auto-exclusion connection system. Combined with the VaporView option (and Vapor 3000/D-Vapor 3000), Perseus A500 provides you sophisticated oxygen and anaesthetic agent level and xMAC prediction technology. This allows you to administer low- and minimal-flow anaesthesia more intuitively.

The Perseus A500 Anesthesia workstation

The smooth surfaces and materials used make fast and easy cleanup. The fully integrated breathing system can be accessed and serviced without the need for special tools.

Standard ventilation modes:

  • Pressure-controlled ventilation: PC-CMV, PC-BIPAP
  • Volume-controlled ventilation: VC-CMV, VC-CMV/AF*, VC-SIMV/AF* (*AutoFlow ensures the delivery of the set tidal volume with the lowest possible pressure to avoid pressure peaks and unintentional high tidal volumes)
  • Manual/Spontaneous (MAN/SPON)

The Perseus A500 Anesthesia workstation

Perseus A500 can be equipped with options to expand ventilation and monitoring capabilities and optimize workflows:

SW option Pressure Support

  • The ventilator is able to recognize and support the patient's breathing efforts
  • the pressure support level and the trigger sensitivity can be set according to the patient’s needs
  • a minimum respiratory rate can be set; mandatory breaths will then be delivered when breathing efforts cease or become too infrequent
  • during volume- or pressure-controlled ventilation, pressure-supported breaths can be triggered between mandatory breaths
  • CPAP (device delivers a constant PEEP) is also possible during MAN/SPON ventilation

SW option Low Flow Wizard

Displays bar graphs indicating the required fresh-gas flow and the total flow.

SW option FiO2 prediction

Software option FiO2 Preview predicts the inspiratory oxygen concentration for a maximum of 20 minutes into the future

SW option Econometer Trend + Logbook Export

  • Software option Econometer Trend for displaying fresh-gas efficiency the last 30 minutes at maximum.
  • Software option Logbook Export for exporting logbook data for several periods (Last case / Today / All data)

SW option APRV

Ventilation mode with two CPAP levels

  • upper CPAP level is reduced periodically for a short time to the lower CPAP level.
  • patient breathes spontaneously on upper CPAP level
  • spontaneous complemented by periodical pressure releases to increase CO2 washout.

SW opiton Lung Recruitment

Software option Lung Recruitment provides several lung recruitment manoeuvres:

  • Inspiratory/Expiratory Hold for extending a breath
  • One-step recruitment for extending a breath with adjustable pressure
  • Multi-step recruitment for applying a sequence of pressure controlled mandatory breaths at variable pressure levels

Option Vapor View (2 vaps)

HW & SW function for prediction of inspiratory and expiratory anesthetic agent concentrations for up to 20 minutes into the future

  • illumination of vaporizer settings and fill level indicator
  • monitoring of vaporizer settings and filling levels

Function only available with (D-)Vapor 3000.

SW option SDC System Integration

Allows the integration into a Dräger SDC device network for exchange of information and for control and synchronization of specific functions and procedures.
